Ventev Helps Vineyard Improve Operations with Wi-Fi Solar System & Battery Test Remote Monitor

HUNT VALLEY, MD. – Ventev, a division of TESSCO Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: TESS), a leading value-added distributor and solutions provider for the wireless industry, was enlisted by Cisco, an American-based multinational technology conglomerate corporation, and its preferred value-added reseller (VAR) to help improve Wi-Fi network performance and connectivity across Bouchaine Vineyards, a 104-acre estate vineyard in Napa, CA.

Bouchaine Vineyards envisioned having virtual wine tastings that live-streamed multiple 4K video feeds to participants around the world and to those streaming from their mobile devices, and to do so they needed stable, high-speed Wi-Fi. The winemaker and vineyard management were also in need of improved network connectivity for the environmental observation of the vineyard.

After Cisco and the commissioned VAR installed many network elements, including the Cisco IR1101 with cellular providing layer 3 connectivity and Edge Intelligence agency, the systems required continuous power to critical network elements where no AC power was available. The two immediately called on Ventev who recommended its Wi-Fi Solar System and Battery Test Remote Monitor (BTRM) to facilitate continuously managed power for these key network installations.

The Wi-Fi Solar System is a complete, fully integrated power enclosure system that is pre-wired and pre-assembled for onsite installation of outdoor access points requiring PoE/PoE+ power. BTRM products perform automatic battery load tests and send exception reports via SNMP, text, or email using Ethernet or DNP3 communication protocols.

“Quality products are central to Ventev’s core value. Equally important are our strong partnerships with Cisco and our VARs to deliver on-time solutions and great service to our customers,” said Thad Lowe, General Manager of Ventev. “Bouchaine Vineyards is serving wine lovers a Taste of Technology in every bottle of wine.”

Cisco and the VAR found what they were looking for with Ventev’s innovative solutions. Bouchaine now actively hosts live virtual wine-tasting experiences supported by full-speed Wi-Fi with solid low-latency backhaul. And, from an operational perspective, connecting sensors in the vineyard is now possible without having to trench for fiber and power.

“Ventev’s solar systems provided Bouchaine with cutting-edge technology to power our cameras and computer systems to work from the middle of the vineyard,” said Chris Kajani, winemaker and General Manager of Bouchaine Vineyards. “Now, the winery’s agricultural story and views of the San Francisco Bay are even more vibrantly showcased during our virtual tastings to wine lovers around the world.”
